Contained Anomaly: CTA-017
Object Class: Amicus-Impetus
Containment Procedures: CTA-017 is located in a remote area of ████████ National Forest, USA. The entrance to CTA-017 is blocked by a chain-link fence and a sign reading "Road Closed". The fence is monitored by two security cameras and patrolled by two Corporation personnel disguised as park rangers. Any unauthorized vehicles or individuals attempting to access CTA-017 are to be intercepted and amnesticized.
Description: CTA-017 is a 5 km long stretch of asphalt road that appears to be a normal rural road. However, CTA-017 exhibits anomalous properties when a vehicle enters it and drives for more than 1 km. At this point, the vehicle will enter a temporal loop that causes it to return to the beginning of CTA-017 after driving for another 1 km, regardless of the direction or speed of the vehicle. The driver and any passengers of the vehicle will not notice the loop and will perceive CTA-017 as a continuous road. Outside observers of the road will not see the car again after it has driven for over 1 km until it reverses for 1 km.
Additionally, CTA-017 affects the perception of time for the occupants of the vehicle. After the sun sets the clock will display 10:00 PM, if the vehicle remains in CTA-017 for more than four hours, the clock will display 2:59 AM and will reset to 10:00 PM after one minute. This cycle will repeat indefinitely until the vehicle exits CTA-017.
Attempts to exit the vehicle or communicate with the outside world while in CTA-017 have proven futile. The doors and windows of the vehicle will not open, and any electronic devices will lose signal or malfunction. The only way to exit CTA-017 is to reverse the vehicle for more than 1 km, which will cause it to reappear at the entrance of CTA-017. However, this method is not known to most of the affected individuals, who will remain trapped in CTA-017 until they run out of fuel, food, water, or sanity.
CTA-017 was discovered by the Corporation after reports of several missing persons and abandoned vehicles in the vicinity of CTA-017. A team of Corporation agents was sent to investigate and confirm the anomalous nature of CTA-017. The current containment procedures were established to prevent further incidents.
Addendum 017-1: On 05/12/2023, a Corporation agent posing as a tow truck driver managed to enter CTA-017 with a vehicle equipped with a hydraulic jack and a metal cutter. The agent attempted to break the window of the vehicle and escape CTA-017. However, as soon as the agent cut through the glass, the vehicle exploded, killing the agent and destroying the equipment. The cause of the explosion is unknown, but it is speculated that CTA-017 somehow detected the breach and reacted accordingly.
Addendum 017-2: On 07/18/2023, a Corporation researcher remotely controlled a drone to enter CTA-017 and observe the behavior of the affected vehicles. The drone was able to fly over CTA-017 without being affected by the temporal loop. The researcher observed that the vehicles in CTA-017 exhibited signs of deterioration, such as rust, flat tyres, broken headlights, and cracked windshields. The researcher also noticed that some of the occupants of the vehicles had died of dehydration, starvation, or suicide, while others had gone insane and resorted to cannibalism, self-mutilation, or violence.
Addendum 017-3: On 09/24/2023, a Corporation agent posing as a hitchhiker entered CTA-017 with a vehicle driven by an unsuspecting civilian. The agent carried a hidden camera and a radio transmitter to document the experience and communicate with the outside. The agent reported that the driver was unaware of the anomaly and believed that they were driving to a nearby town. The agent tried to convince the driver to reverse the vehicle and exit CTA-017, but the driver refused, claiming that they had to reach their destination. The agent then attempted to take control of the vehicle, but the driver resisted and a struggle ensued. The agent managed to grab the steering wheel and turn the vehicle around, but before they could reverse for more than 1 km, the driver stabbed the agent in the neck with a pocket knife, killing them. The driver then continued to drive forward, unaware of the agent’s death. The camera and the radio transmitter stopped working shortly after.
Addendum 017-4: On 11/05/2023, a JD-class personnel was sent into CTA-017 with a vehicle equipped with a GPS tracker and a radio receiver. The JD-class personnel was instructed to drive along CTA-017 and report any anomalies or changes in the environment. The JD-class personnel complied and entered CTA-017. After driving for 1 km, the GPS tracker showed that the vehicle had returned to the entrance of CTA-017, confirming the temporal loop. The JD-class personnel did not notice the loop and continued to drive forward. The radio receiver transmitted the JD-class personnel’s voice, which sounded calm and normal. After driving for another 1 km, the GPS tracker showed that the vehicle had returned to the entrance of CTA-017 again, while the radio receiver transmitted the same voice as before, repeating the same words. This pattern continued for several hours until the radio receiver stopped working.
Addendum 017-5: On 01/15/2024, a JD-class personnel were sent into CTA-017 with a vehicle equipped with a video camera and a microphone. The JD-class personnel was instructed to drive along CTA-017 and record any anomalies or changes in the environment. The JD-class personnel complied and entered CTA-017. After driving for 1 km, the video camera showed that the vehicle had returned to the entrance of CTA-017, confirming the temporal loop. The JD-class personnel did not notice the loop and continued to drive forward. The microphone recorded the JD-class personnel’s voice, which sounded calm and normal. After driving for another 1 km, the video camera showed that the vehicle had returned to the entrance of CTA-017 again, while the microphone recorded the same voice as before, repeating the same words. This pattern continued for several hours until the video camera and the microphone stopped working.
Addendum 017-6: On 03/25/2024, JD-7742 was sent into CTA-017 with a vehicle equipped with a bomb and a remote detonator. JD-7742 was instructed to drive along CTA-017 and activate the bomb when ordered. JD-7742 complied and entered CTA-017. JD-7742 did not notice the loop and continued to drive forward. When JD-7742 activated the bomb, it did not explode. Instead, the vehicle and JD-7742 disappeared from CTA-017, leaving no trace. The bomb was later recovered from a nearby landfill, with no signs of damage or tampering. The whereabouts and fate of JD-7742 are unknown.
