Contained Anomaly: CTA-026
Object Class: Caputalis.
Containment Procedures: CTA-026 must be under constant supervision in both its aspects. In order to do so, the research team of CTA-026 ("Proverbs 10;19") has been split into two. Each half is composed of 14 members.
One half of the research team is dedicated to the supervision of CTA-026-A. CTA-026-A is physically contained in a complex rotating number of rooms. The centre of the cell (The "main room") is a tall cylinder shaped room with rows of bookshelves of historical documents, books and works dating back to 2900 BCE. It is littered with various cameras through which half of the research team observe and document CTA-026-A's behaviour in a paper folder.
Surrounding it is a rotating labyrinth of hallways and rooms made of, primarily, stone. At exactly midnight of each day, an ancient mechanism located underground rotates each hallway and room to be a completely different layout. Hidden cameras are lined up along these walls.
Every nine months, fourteen JD personnel are sent into the labyrinth through it's entrance - Which is than sealed up instantly thereafter - with varying degrees of gear and weaponry for CTA-026-A to hunt. Seven of these members must be men and seven must be women, they must be under or in their mid thirties and their JD identification number must've been taken away and designated to another personnel shortly before entering the maze. This hunting is designed to tire CTA-026-A and further learn about its abilities.
The other half of the research team is dedicated to the supervision of CTA-026-B. CTA-026-B manifests across the internet in various forms across various websites. When an instance is discovered, the research team works to implant messages into the baseline code that will enter the subconsciousness of any viewers and cause them to forget the instance shortly after coming into contact with it, with the instance then being deleted.
Any instances that escape the internet (E.g. DVDs of movies) are located by a temporary skeleton crew of Military Forces personnel and disposed of. If an instance breaks typical containment (E.g. Shown in a cinema to a number of people) those people are tracked down and made to forget the instance, with further action being taken to make sure no other instances break typical containment.
Due to the nature of CTA-026, less than one hundred personnel are allowed to know about it at all times, including the research team and temporary skeleton crew. After each mission, temporary skeleton crew are to be given retrosketchers to dispose of memories. Upon a personnel of the research team resigning or being moved, they are given retrosketchers.
The head of the research team, Theseus, is one of few personnel allowed to know about CTA-026 at all times.
Description: CTA-026 is the designation for a class abstruse anomaly currently understood to exist in two halves, designated CTA-026-A and CTA-026-B. CTA-026 is termed as a 'Ret-Inf Idea', the only known version of its kind.
The anomalous properties of CTA-026, as understood, are to spread the very idea of it's existence through various forms. This idea is that of, what is termed as, a 'Minotaur' - A creature with the body of a man and the head of a bull - This is usually done through a story, most commonly that of the Minotaur living in a labyrinth and being killed by a great hero. Once it is implanted, it is capable of 'retconning' itself into the past in such a way that it will have existed at an earlier date. It is worth noting, many instances contain the Ouroboros symbol, meaning unknown.
As it seems, through the spread of itself CTA-026 threatens to become stronger depending on how many people become aware of it (Whether or not people believe it to be real). Theories and projections show that, if enough people become aware of it, CTA-026 will become capable of feats relating to planetary destruction and control of the collective human consciousness.
CTA-026-A is the 'physical' half of CTA-026. It often takes the form of the previously mentioned Minotaur, wearing varying clothes from various cultures. CTA-026-A is not entirely confined to this form, and is capable of 'shapeshifting' into creatures of around the same size and a gas form which can travel extremely fast. It is through this form that CTA-026-A is limited from entering it's 'true form'.
CTA-026-B is the 'idea' half of CTA-026. It is an idea which spreads through, what is termed as, Ideaspace and appears in various instances and thereafter retcons itself into the past. CTA-026-B manifestations include books, posts, depictions and the very word 'Minotaur'.
CTA-026-A is the limiting factor which stops CTA-026 from reaching its full potential. If CTA-026-A was to cease existing, there would be no known way to stop CTA-026-B from retconning itself hundreds of times over across various forms of media in an instant. As it seems, CTA-026-B is incapable of manifesting itself as anything except a Minotaur due to the physical form of CTA-026-A.
CTA-026-A was located by the Corporation in 1943 after reports from passing planes of a large unidentified stone structure sticking out the side of a mountain on an island. A small tribe was discovered dedicated to the 'containment' of CTA-026-A and with knowledge of CTA-026-B. The Corporation took over the matters of containment shortly after, with the tribe forming into the research group.
The following is a transcript of a series of interviews undertaken between head researcher Theseus and CTA-026-A across time. Undertaken in the main room of containment with Theseus talking through a microphone. Prior to these interview, CTA-026-A had not been documented as speaking on any recorded software, or divulging information so freely.
[BEGIN LOG]
Theseus: I am Theseus. Head Researcher of CTA-026's research team, name Proverbs 10;19, conducting an interview with the anomaly known as CTA-026-A. The date is 00/00/0000. Interview begin.
-Theseus pauses, sounds of briefly collecting his notes-
Theseus: CTA-026-A. The tribe I descend from has been containing you for, what seems to be, hundreds of years by now. But all the notes we have accumulated do not detail any known origin, do you care to share light on these facts?
CTA-026-A: -Incoherent mumbling-
Theseus: I'm sorry, what was that?
CTA-026-A: Do you have any recommendations on what I should read? I do have such a large collection.
Theseus: That is not the topic of this interview.
CTA-026-A: I know.
-Silence for eighteen seconds-
Theseus: I am afraid I have not made myself familiar with your collection. Apologies.
CTA-026-A: It's quite alright. I should read out a few of these pieces for you, to choose from.
Theseus: I would prefer to-
CTA-026-A: -Interrupting- The Seventh Universe of the Prophet Hieralias, Avesta, the Hesiodic Catalogue of Women, The Battle of Maldon, Parallel Lives-
Theseus: Parallel lives. Now, if we could get back to the interview-
CTA-026-A: A respectable choice. I acquired this one under remarkable circumstances. A travelling warlock wanted these from a peasant mother. He returned each day and night for nine months asking for it under threat of curse. Each day and each night the mother refused, and each day and each night he cursed her. All the classic curses. After those nine months he called upon me, although back in those days I do believe I went by Ba'al Zvuv in those days. He asked me to summon so many flies she would have to give him the book. Naturally, I asked him for one gift. But, ever so smart, he limited this to one physical possession. I agreed to this, and when I sent my armies of flies she was forced to give the book to this warlock. He was happy, confident he'd outsmarted both me and her. I asked him for the one physical possession he had allowed me, the book. People are never intelligent enough to see the trick right in front of them.
Theseus: -Trying to keep his composure- Ba'al Zvuv? As in the major Demon?
CTA-026-A: Is that what your people know me as? Ah, I should never have abandoned that form. Well, I say I willingly abandoned it.
Theseus: What do you mean?
CTA-026-A: Ah ah, I'm reading. And your people are late on your sacrifices. -It opens Parallel Lives- Ah, what a coincidence. You are Theseus, and this story details a Theseus.
-Silence from both sides-
Theseus: End interview.
The discovery that CTA-026-A was, per claims, once Ba'al Zvuv, a major Demon in theological sources, is unsettling. It seems to suggest that throughout history it has taken various forms, and that the form of a Minotaur is only it's latest. Should action be taken to remove Ba'al Zvuv from history?
– Researcher Theseus to Administrative Command.
Denied by Administrative Command (4-7-3).
Actions to erase an already established major figure from the internet and physical records is beyond even our capabilities. Due to CTA-026-A no longer taking this form, it should not prove an issue.
– Administrative Command to Researcher Theseus.
The next interview was three days after the previous.
[BEGIN LOG]
Theseus: I am Theseus. Head Researcher of CTA-026's research team, name Proverbs 10;19, conducting an interview with the anomaly known as CTA-026-A. The date is 00/00/0000. Interview begin. CTA-026-A, a few days ago you were exceedingly helpful in sheeding some light towards your past history. Do you care to do this again?
CTA-026-A: Oh I don't know. I think perhaps I am spoiling you and your people, that maybe I should bask in the mystery more.
Theseus: Hm. How unfortunate. I was truly looking forward to hearing another of your stories.
CTA-026-A: Well, those are many. I could tell you hundreds of stories about these books, remarkable circumstances become hardly remarkable when they all are remarkable. I mean, a whole case of those were from the man on the moon. You know what there is only one story of, the story of how I came to be here. What little do you know?
Theseus: We know a tribe has been guarding you for hundreds of years, we know the tribe has been keeping you here for hundreds of years, the labyrinth seems to date thousands of years, but the mechanism rotating it is far beyond anything any civilization could've created at that time.
CTA-026-A: Hm, yes, a mechanism. Of course -mumbles something unidentified- Yes well, perhaps that is a story for another day. It is rather boring, after all.
Theseus: Oh well, actually I-
CTA-026-A: You know. I remember the day I built this place, got all my books here. It took seventy two demons to get them all here, or was it seventy one, I can never remember if I was one of them? The ones in the Ars Goetia.
Theseus: Ba'al Zvuv was one of them, by another name. But still. How don't you remember?
CTA-026-A: My memory isn't anything what it's used to be. Not since… -It hesitates- Not since…
Theseus: Since?
CTA-026-A: Well, not since The Fall, after the rebellion. Back then I think I went by… Lucifer?
Theseus: End interview.
This keeps getting more concerning. The Devil? Satan? Lucifer of the Morningstar itself? Who else has this anomaly been? How many faces? Requesting termination permission immediately.
– Researcher Theseus to Administrative Command.
Denied by Administrative Command (3-6-5).
Termination of CTA-026-A is the limiting factor stopping CTA-026-B from reaching it's full potential. Remember that. Don't make a lapse of judgement like that again.
– Administrative Command to Researcher Theseus.
Interview took place four months after the previous. Researcher Theseus had refused to interview CTA-026-A, interviews from all other personnel during this time proved unsuccessful. Furthermore, during this time there were zero recorded instances of CTA-026-B.
[BEGIN LOG]
Theseus: Why are you so insistent on only being interviewed by me.
CTA-026-A: Ah, Theseus, you forget your manners.
Theseus: We're not on a name by name basis. Give me answers. I'm starting to think you're lying to us, Beelzebub, Lucifer of The Morningstar, likely story.
CTA-026-A: What reason would I have to lie to you?
Theseus: Because you're an egomaniac who's essentially powerless and incapable of doing anything while we keep you contained, so you lie about being powerful.
CTA-026-A: -Suddenly- Thousands upon thousands of years ago your ancestors were bore from the clay of a Goddess and sculpted to be the only animal to create ideas. They came across me in a deep sleep and built a labyrinth around me to encase me forever and ever. Through dark magics and blood rituals they tore my mind from my undying power and locked me in this form in an attempt to stop me from becoming the God I Was Always Meant To Be.
Theseus: End intervie-
CTA-026-A: But you weren't exactly wrong. You're people are intelligent, but not always smart, you gave me interviews. You gave me the power to speak. All I had to do was claim to be a figure, then quietly retcon that figure into history. Ba'al Zvuv, Lucifer. They never existed till I spoke their name, then they always had.
Theseus: You're never speaking a single word ever again. I'm shutting this whole thing down.
CTA-026-A: Oh Theseus.
-The sounds of Researcher Theseus getting off his chair and leaving-
CTA-026-A: The name was never a coincidence.
The discovery of CTA-026-A having successfully retconned these things into history without notice seems to further suggest their powers aren't exactly known to us.
Automatically transcribed footage of camera footage from the cell of CTA-026-A.
CTA-026-A is looking through its books, mumbling to itself.
Theseus walks through the entrance, almost running through.
Theseus: What the hell is your game?
CTA-026-A: Hm. You know, from what I've checked, it's rather dangerous to enter the room with an anomaly.
Theseus: I found your post, what the hell? A character named 'Theseus' killing the Minotaur? Why?
CTA-026-A: Well yes, the mythological hero Theseus. He had quite a lot of-
Theseus: You're trying to get my attention, why me?
CTA-026-A: I have no idea what you're talking about.
Theseus: -He takes out a small pistol and points it straight in its [CTA-026-A's] face- I don't think killing you will make you a God. I think you're bluffing. You know what I think?
CTA-026-A: -Sounding somewhat hesitant- What… do you think?
Theseus: I think you needed a game. Entertainment. Whatever. So you disguised yourself as a Minotaur and built this place specifically to make no sense, a three hundred year old tribe, thousands of year old stone, mechanisms we could barely create in the modern era. They don't add up, because you wanted to mess with us. You choose to take this form as a Minotaur, you weren't forced into it, you wanted us to come here just so you could have some entertainment.
CTA-026-A: Interesting idea. Except-
Theseus: I'm over it, I'm over this entire thing. You know what? Let's make that myth a reality. It's over, this is all over. You're over.
-Before CTA-026-A can speak, Theseus fires and blows off half its face. Chunks of skin and bones are blown off and half of it's face sags down, exposed-
CTA-026-A: -Silent for at least ten seconds. It laughs- You really don't get it yet, do you?
-Theseus fires once again. Blowing off another part of its face-
CTA-026-A: You never had a chance to kill me. You can't kill an idea.
-Theseus fires another time-
CTA-026-A: I did lie. I may not be Beelzebub, or Lucifer, not the ones your culture is familiar with at least. I came here from the darkness beyond. I wasn't an idea when I first arrived, I had to set myself up, I had to imprison myself in this form for hundreds of years for your Corporation to find me. I had to convince your people I was an idea. Then I became an idea. I am-
Theseus: Shut the hell up. -Theseus fires again. CTA-026-A's face is grotesquely deformed-
CTA-026-A: How can you know what I've done to history? Is every single moment of human history my attempt to put myself on the top, were the Greeks, the Romans, the Aztecs all just part of my experiments, is every God my latest attempt to become more?
-Theseus fires one more time. CTA-026-A's face is completely unrecognisable-
CTA-026-A: What will you be when I'm gone? Will you even exist when I've gone?
-CTA-026-A crumbles into dust. Vanishing-
