Containment Procedures: CTA-112 is to be stored in its jewel case in a standard locker.
Description: CTA-112 is a compact disc. Dimensionally, it is identical to others, weighing 16.2 grams, having a diameter of 120 mm and being a thickness of 1.2 mm. Its composition is also identical, being made of polycarbonate plastic. CTA-112 does not appear to have any printing. CTA-112 is also double sided, which is atypical of CDs.
CTA-112 's anomalous properties stem from its ability to alter its physical surface on one side, designated Side A. After every insertion into a CD player, the pits and lands1 are on Side A's surface will change, causing it to register as an entirely different album. This occurs when CTA-112 is being read. CTA-112 can change into playing albums that haven't been released yet (see Experiment Log 112-A). The previous album does not have to finish playing for this change to occur. CTA-112 also appears to select rock and metal albums.
Side B does not change, playing the same album which is an album called House of Cards by a band called Toxiclone. No record of this band or this album exists. The album itself is 92 minutes long, which exceeds the storage capacity of a CD (80 minutes) by 12 minutes, yet CTA-112 is able to play the album in its entirety. For this reason, CTA-112 may also be a spatial anomaly,
The jewel case that CTA-112 was discovered and is stored in does not appear to have any anomalous properties. Non-anomalous CDs placed inside of the jewel case and then played do not appear to change, showing that CTA-112's anomalous abilities stem from itself. CTA-112's case does not have a booklet or an inlay. CTA-112 sits in an opaque black tray in the case.
Experiment Log 112-A
██/██/1997
CTA-112 was inserted into a CD player and started playing the album Cop by Swans. After removal and re-insertion, a different album, Issues by Korn, started playing instead. This album does not exist. After repeated tests and inspection, the arrangements of the pits and lands on CTA-112's surface change arrangement.
During these tests, CTA-112 was inserted on the incorrect side. It was discovered there was a whole other album on the other side. This album played for 92 minutes.
Notes: CTA-112 can shape shift to some degree due to the change in pits and lands. There may also be a possible spatial anomaly due to the album on the other side exceeding the 80-minute storage capacity.
Additional Notes (2000): The album Issues by Korn was released in 1999, meaning that CTA-112 can play albums that haven't been released yet.
